Importing Grades from Google Forms to Classroom

Recently, Google updated Google Classroom capabilities to allow importing grades from Google Forms.  This is a very beneficial way to streamline your workload by using 2 Google apps.  There are a few things to remember while setting up your Forms in order to have this import function available in Classroom.

1. After creating a quiz in Google Forms, check the following settings:

  • Click on settings icon in top right corner (looks like a gear)
  • Click on "Quizzes" tab and then select "Make this a quiz"
  • Decide if you want students to see missed questions, correct answers, and point values and check or uncheck these options.

2. From Google Classroom:

  • Create new assignment and give it a title and instructions
  • Attach quiz from your Google Drive
  • Click toggle button "Enable grade importing" (if you don't see this option, return to your original form and ensure you followed the steps above.
NOTE: Grade importing automatically limits each form to 1 response per user, collects email addresses, and restricts responses to users in your domain.

3. Importing Grades

Once students have submitted their responses:

  • Click on "Done" to see the details of this assignment
  • You will see a list of students who have completed the quiz, but without grades
  • In the upper right corner, click on "Import Grades" button to begin importing grades
  • Point value will automatically adjust to your original Form settings
  • Select students from the right menu to return grades
  • To view student responses in detail, click on "View Student Responses in Forms"
